Jaguar National Rally 2024
The 15th Jaguar National Rally is to be held in Christchurch over the Easter Weekend March 29th – 31st, 2024.
Airforce Museum of New Zealand, Wigram, Christchurch.
This promises to be an exciting venue as it enables us to hold our functions and place displays amid the fabulous exhibits of aviation history in New Zealand.
The downside of the museum is that it is not located in close proximity to hotels, motels etc. There are a few but in most cases accommodation will be some distance away. Earlier we provided clubs with recommended accommodation and most clubs made arrangements early on. Accommodation is the responsibility of clubs / individuals.

SUNDAY 31ST MARCH
The day is set aside for leisure activities. 4 trips have been organised but of course some may wish to have this time on their own. The choice is yours. In the next newsletter you will be asked to advise which tour (if any) you would like to go on.
Departing the Airforce Museum carpark at 9.00am you will head to Hanmer Springs. Drive time under 2 hours each way. Famous for the hot pools but you will find there is a lot more to do in Hanmer. Bungy Jump, horse riding, rafting, quad bike tours, miniature golf to name but a few. Side trips are your responsibility to organise. On the way there call in at Waimak Classic Cars (located just before Amberley). From here our club members Jesmond and Gloria Micallif run their business which is well known for the wonderful selection of classic cars available for sale.
Departing the Airforce Museum carpark at 9.00am you will head for Akaroa. One of the scenic hotspots accessible from Christchurch. Drivetime 90 minutes each way. Known for the French influence of the village it is easy to walk around. You can do dolphin tours, trekking, enjoy the artisan shopping. On the way stop off at the art gallery at Little River or the cheese factory at Duvauchelle.
Departing the Airforce Museum carpark at 10.00am this tour is for the real enthusiasts. Visits have been organised at Auto Restorations – a world renowned restoration business. It is a rare treat to go through this workshop and observe firsthand the exceptional work that they do.
Then its onto Auto Haven. This is an exceptional private collection of classic vehicles. Nothing much else like it in New Zealand.
Please note this is not a business. Entry to this collection is not the norm.
There is a charge of $35 per head for the visit to Auto Haven Collection.
For those not wishing to travel far but wanting to see the sights of Christchurch this tour leaves the Airforce Museum carpark at 10.00am. You will drive through the city, around the bays to Sumner. Over the hill to Lyttleton. Around to Diamond Harbour. Back and though Gebbies Pass and on to Halswell.
In Halswell you will find the magical personal car collection of our club members Ray and Nancy Drury. A large collection covering many brands but including 9 Jaguars. It is also home to a Wurlitzer organ and you will be treated to a recital by organist Richard. From there is a short trip back to your accommodation.
All tours will be escorted by members from the Christchurch Jaguar Drivers Club.
Should any issues arise, they will be your point of contact.
For those of you who do not wish to go on an organised tour, we recommend that you visit the botanical gardens; the Arts Centre; the Art gallery; convention centre; take a scenic ride around the city on the trams; take a canoe ride up the Avon River; go up the gondola in the Heathcote Valley for unique views over both the city and Lyttleton harbour; visit the Riverside Market in town or the Riccarton Market which is located at the Riccarton Racecourse; walk the town and enjoy the numerous new buildings and the general feel of a city which has undergone so much change since the earthquakes.
There is much to see and do.
